Euthanasia...My Thoughts

Euthanasia is a method which a person's life is deliberately ended to end the patient's suffering. However, many people have complained about the using of euthanasia. The patient is killed by inhaling carbon monoxide which is the same gas released from car exhausts, an overdose of highly-effective sleeping pills or even from a lethal dose of drugs through injection.

Normally, when patients whose family members or the patient itself opts for euthanasia, the patients are usually terminally ill and there is no treatment available. However, the feeling of losing your loved ones through euthanasia can be quite traumatizing. Being there at the point where one watches your loved ones die in front of you is always never a good feeling. Even so, certain patients still opt for euthanasia as they do not want their families members to worry for them. For the families who opt for euthanasia for their loved ones, it is usually to end their suffering and end the battle with the disease.

For me, I believe that euthanasia is not a very humane way of ending someone's life as the person might live for a few more weeks and a medical cure might have been found in that period. However, the chances are slim. It is in some ways humane as it ends the suffering for patients who have no more chance of survival even if a cure is to be found in that small period of time. Having said so, my stand is still clear. I am against euthanasia for most situations. There might be one or two cases where euthanasia might be a better choice but how often does those cases come?

In Singapore, even the law states that euthanasia is not legal. This shows Singapore's stand against using euthanasia or mercy-killing as it is also known. However, in other countries, euthanasia is still being practiced.
